This site aims to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. It is a concept project, so the township is fictional, but the tests below were run on this site.
Test results, October 28, 2026
| Check | Result |
|---|---|
| axe-core (WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 A and AA, plus best practices) | 0 violations on all 11 pages, at phone and desktop sizes |
| Lighthouse accessibility (3 pages: home, about, Fire & EMS, phone profile) | 100 on every page tested |
| Lighthouse performance | 93 to 100; the home page is the heaviest because of its large photo |
| Lighthouse best practices | 100 on every page tested |
| Keyboard | Skip link is the first stop and every stop shows a visible focus ring |
| Reflow at 320 and 640 pixels wide | No horizontal scrolling |
| Text spacing | No clipped text |
| Structure | One h1 per page, no skipped heading levels, every page has a title and description, every image has an alt attribute (empty for decoration) |
| Page weight | About 350 KB for the home page, which has a large photo, and about 205 KB or less for every other page, including images |
What was fixed during testing
- The October 28 redesign passed the automated checks on the first run.
- Photos that only decorate are hidden from screen readers, and the others have descriptions. The photos on this site are computer-generated for the concept. They are not real people, customers or places.
- Dates shown in calendar-style badges are hidden from screen readers, because the full date is written out beside them.
- The photos were resized to about twice the size they show on screen, which brought the home page performance score back up.
Not yet tested
- Manual screen reader testing (VoiceOver, NVDA). This statement will be updated when it is done.
- Lighthouse "SEO" shows 60 to 63, not 100, because the site is deliberately marked
noindexso search engines skip this concept project.
Tools: axe-core, Lighthouse 12, and Nest Co.'s own scripted checks.
